Job/Work Design


Introduction

Work design is important for an organization to perform the organizational activities within the most productive and effective manner. It gives the required information approximately the incumbent additionally indicates the way of performing the tasks.

Literature

Work analysis and work design were introduced in 1911 by Frederick W. Taylor in his book "Scientific Management," and have become fundamental parts of human resources management. With the continually changing nature of work, many analysts have argued that work analysis and work design are not significant. But even with continuous changes, they are still essential for selecting and hiring, workers performance, efficiency management and employment law compliance. (diene, 2017)

Work design is driven by work analysis. Based on the data collected within the work analysis, jobs can be organized to consolidate related tasks and skills and to distinguish and maintain a strategic distance from redundancies. Jobs may be outlined based on work capacities, techniques, materials, products, services, subject matter, worker requirements and physical requests of the work. Work design also groups related functions, leading to increased efficiency. It makes a difference set up performance criteria and can be utilized to create productive and successful work stream processes. (James, 2017)


The objective of a job design is to arrange the work in such a manner so as to reduce the boredom and dissatisfaction among the employees, arising due to the repetitive nature of the task.
There are several important methods and techniques that the management uses while designing the jobs.

Conclusion

The management must decide on the level of motivation that is required to be enforced on an individual to get the work completed successfully. Thus, the managers must design the jobs that motivate his employees.

Employees have the option to vary tasks as per their personal and social needs, habits and circumstances in the workplace.Job design offers good work and rest schedule by clearly defining the number of hours an individual has to spend in his/her job.
